Our
German Comenius parner’s school is in Teteron and we were delighted to welcome
two teachers Timm Lehmkuhl and Lothar Roesler and three students to our
school. We have been partners in the Comenius Radionet Project for the past nine
years.
The
group arrived in Ballinamore on Sunday afternoon and after meeting their hosts,
Ciara Doonan, Aoife Fox and Dannielle Mc Govern were joined by Mrs.Earley and
some 4th year students.
The
group visited the coal mines in Arigna and from there went to Carrick for
bowling.
On
Monday morning the German group were officially welcomed to the school by Fr.
Duffy. He said that he was very happy to have our partners with us, and reminded
everyone that our links with Germany extend way back in History, to the times of
St. Killian, who is remembered in Mullagh, Co. Cavan, and Westphalia, Germany.
Fr.
Duffy presented the German teachers with souvenirs of their visit to Ballinamore
PPS, and they in turn presented the school with a framed photo of Teteron.
Ms. Brid
Griffin welcomed the group in German and Mrs. Earley then invited Annika
Lehnardt to speak in German to our visitors. The hosts Ciara, Dannielle and
Aoife presented the girls with gifts.
They
visited the classes on Monday and Tuesday, and gave our students a taste of what
school life is like in Germany. They even taught our pupils a few words of
German.
All too
quickly it was time to say “Auf Wiedersehen” and wish our new friends a safe
journey home.
