Variety Concert 2010
The LCVP class of Ballinamore PPS organised a variety concert over two
nights on the 25th and 26th March. There
was excellent on both nights with a high participation rate from students
and teachers alike. The night began with the national anthem played by thre Ward
sisters, Orla and Niamh. MC for the two nights was none other than Paddy Mc
Dermott. Commencing at 8pm a total of 19 acts took part on the night.
In the first half of the show we had 9 acts which consisted of a rock band

who sang Love Story. Connall Mc Manus then gave us a dance from “Pedro” out
of the hit film Napolean Dynamite. Shaylyn Gilheaney then performed an Irish

we had a traditional set which featured a m,ixture of teachers and pupils.
Lord of the Dance was then performed and we then had “Islands in the
Stream” sang by Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton in the guise of Oisin Mc
Caffrey and Brian Beirne. The final act of the first half was “Sister Act”
which featured second years along with Miss Cooney and Miss Fahy.
The second part of the show began with an Irish
Dance by Roisin Dolan which was then followed by “ Da Quiz” including Jack
Bagge, John Fanning, Anya Gilheaney and Jack Cullen. The third act of the second
half was Dearbhla Smith singing “ Stop crying your heart out”. We then had
Gymnastics performed by the O’ Dowd sisters, Ciara and Laura. The Ward
sisters, Orla and Niamh played a tune on the mouth organ and next up was fourth

some fourth year boys. “Lean on Me” was then sang

members performed “YMCA” by the Village people.
A raffle followed and Mr Mc Dermott who will retire this year recounted the
many enjoyable concerts that he recalls in his 38 years teaching in Ballinamore.
He perticularly singled out the co-operation between staff and pupils which made
this year’s concert and the many others over the years so successful.
Mr Leyden, Principal, then made a presentation to Mr Mc Dermott and Mr
Leyden thanked everyone who helped make the concert run so smoothly.
Ballinamore PPS would like to thank the LCVP class and Mr O Reilly for
organising the event, teachers for helping out with acts and participating and
supervising on the night, parents for generously supporting the concert over
both nights, Josie Creamer for Sound, the Hall Committee for use of the Hall and
anyone who sponsored a prize for the raffle.
